アメリカのフロリダ州から西インド諸島、南アメリカ北部に分布しています。湿った熱帯バイオームに生え、着生または岩生します。茎は直立または斜上して、長さは１０〜４５センチになります。葉は卵形から楕円形で、基部から３〜５脈があります。ほとんど一年中、茎頂または葉腋から穂状花序をだし、小さな目立たない花をいっぱい咲かせます。果実は卵形から球形の小堅果です。写真は斑入り品種の「バリエガタ（cv. Variegata）」。

コショウ科サダソウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Peperomia glabella (syn. Piper glabellum)。英名は Cypress peperomia、Wax privet。

The Cypress peperomia (Peperomia glabella) belongs to Piperaceae (the Pepper family). It is an evergreen perennial that is distributed from Florida in the United States to the West Indies and northern South America. It grows in moist tropical biomes, and is either epiphytic or lithophytic. The stem is upright or ascending, and is 10-45 cm long. The leaves are ovate to elliptic, with 3-5 veins from the base. Almost year-round, spikes bloom with small inconspicuous flowers from the stem tip or leaf axils. The fruit is an ovate to spherical small nut. The photo shows the variegated variety 'Variegata'.
