ブラジル南東部のミナスジェライス州とエスピーリトサント州に分布しています。乾燥した森やサバンナに生え、高さは５メートルほどになります。幹は直径２０センチ以上になり、幹や枝には鋭くて長い棘が生えます。夏にピンク色の花を昼間だけ咲かせます。花後、ナシ形の果実が実ります。園芸上は「さくらきりん（桜麒麟）」と呼ばれます。

The rose cactus (Pereskia grandifolia) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a deciduous shrub that is native to Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo, southeast Brazil. This cactus grows in dry forests, savanna and can reach about 5 m in height. Trunks grow up to 20 cm in diameter, and long acute spines are born on the trunks and branches. Pink flowers open during the day in summer. Following bloom the pear-shaped fruits ripen.
