インドが原産です。高さは６０〜８０センチほどで、低木状になります。冬から春にかけて、茎の先と上部の葉腋に、赤紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は２唇状に深く裂け、基部は細い筒状でねじれます。属名は、ギリシャ語の「回転する」から。

キツネノマゴ科ハグロソウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Peristrophe speciosa。英名はありません。

The Peristrophe speciosa belongs to Acanthaceae (the Acanthus family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to India. It is 60-80 cm tall and shrubby. It produces reddish-purple flowers from winter to spring at the tips of the stems and in the upper leaf axils. The corolla is deeply lobed in a two-lipped shape, and the base is narrowly tubular and twisted. The genus name is from the Greek word "peri" (around)+"stophe"(turn).
