中国の南東部、四川省南西部と雲南省北西部に分布しています。標高２８００〜３１００メートルにある高山帯の岩崖に生え、高さは１０〜１５センチになります。葉は広卵形で、両面が白色の短毛に被われています。８月から９月ごろ、青紫色の花を咲かせます。冬には地上部は枯れ、冬眠します。和名では、「すみれいわぎりそう（菫岩桐草）」と呼ばれます。中国語では「萎軟石蝴蝶 (wei ruan shi hu die) 」です。

イワタバコ科ペトロコスメア属の多年草で、学名は Petrocosmea flaccida。英名はありません。

The Petrocosmea flaccida belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to southeastern China; southwestern Sichuan and northwestern Yunnan. This herb grows in rocky alpine cliffs, 2800-3100 m above sea level, and up to a height of 10-15 cm. The leaves are broad ovate and covered with white short hairs on both sides. The blue-purple flowers bloom from August to September. The terrestrial is blighted and it will dormants in winter. In Chinese it is "萎軟石蝴蝶" (wei ruan shi hu die).
