The Pink mulla mulla (Ptilotus exaltatus) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is an annual or a perennial herb that is distributed in Australia. It grows in arid and semi-arid areas and is 60-120 cm tall. The stems are hairy when young, later becoming hairless, and branched at the top. The leaves are leathery, light green to blue-green and elliptic. From summer to late fall, it produces a panicle at the tops of stems and branch tips, and produces numerous purplish-pink flowers. The outer perianth segments are covered with silvery-white wooly hairs. The most common cultivar grown for gardening is 'Joey'. The latin name "ptilotus" means "feathery", and the first letter "p" is silent. "Petit lotus" is the trade name in Japan.
