アメリカの南東部、モハーベ砂漠の高地とソノラ砂漠が原産です。今では、観賞用植物として一般的に栽培されていて、他の場所でも帰化しているのが確認されています。茎は直立して基部から分枝し、高さ１０～７０センチになります。葉は卵形からほぼ円形で、鋸歯があります。４月から６月ごろ、茎頂の緩い集散花序をだし、明るい青色のベル形の花を咲かせます。果実は卵形の蒴果で、短い腺毛があります。

ハゼリソウ科ファセリア属の一年草で、学名は Phacelia campanularia。英名は Desert bluebells、California bluebell、Arizona bluebell。

The Desert bluebells (Phacelia campanularia) belongs to Hydrophyllaceae (the Waterleaf family). It is an annual herb that is native to the upland areas of the Mojave Desert and Sonoran Desert in the southeastern United States. It is now commonly grown as an ornamental plant and has been found naturalized elsewhere. The stem is erect and branched from the base, reaching 10 to 70 cm in height. From April to June, bright blue bell-shaped flowers bloom in loose cymes at the top of the stem. The fruit is an ovate capsule with short glandular hairs.
