The Phaleria capitata belongs to Thymelaeaceae (the Akia family). It is a small or semi-tall evergreen tree that is distributed from the Philippines to Borneo, Sulawesi, New Guinea, the Malay Peninsula and Sri Lanka. It grows in tropical rainforests and can reach a height of around 10 m. The leaves are elliptic in shape and around 10 cm long, and are opposite each other. From fall to winter, it produces white tubular flowers with a pleasant fragrance in the leaf axils. The stamens are long and protrude from the corolla. The fruit is 1 to 2 cm in diameter and ripens red.
