アメリカの南西部、ソノラ砂漠とモハーベ砂漠、バハカリフォルニア半島に分布しています。道ばたや斜面、灌木帯などに生え、高さは３０〜９０センチになります。全体に細かい毛に被われています。葉には変異が多く、１〜２回羽状に深裂します。２月から６月ごろ、茎の先にサソリの尾のように巻いた花序をだし、淡青色のベル形の花を咲かせます。

ハゼリソウ科ファセリア属の一年草で、学名は Phacelia distans。英名は Distant phacelia、Wild heliotrope、Blue phacelia。

The Distant phacelia (Phacelia distans) belongs to Hydrophyllaceae (the Waterleaf family). It is an annual herb that is found in the southwestern United States in the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts and the Baja California Peninsula. It grows on roadsides, slopes, and shrublands, and is 30-90 cm tall. The entire plant is covered with fine hairs. From February to June, it produces inflorescences coiled like a scorpion's tail at the end of the stem and blooms pale blue bell-shaped flowers.
