The elephant ears orchid (Phalaenopsis gigantea) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial evergreen tree that is native to the Borneo in Indonesia. This orchid grows in tropical forests up to 400 m elevation, and are epiphytes. The leaves are 5-6, pale green, up to 50 cm long. The flowers are purple-brown mottled aganist a yellowish white background, and bloom descendin at the long terminal flowering stalks.
