マレー半島からスマトラ島、ボルネオ島に分布しています。着生ランで、春から夏にかけて淡い紫色から赤紫色の花を咲かせます。花には芳香があります。花色やかたちは原産地によって変異が大きいそうです。

ラン科ファレノプシス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Phalaenopsis violacea。英名はありません。

The Phalaenopsis violacea belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra and Borneo. It is an epiphytic orchid and produces pale purple to reddish purple flowers from spring to summer. The flowers have an aromatic fragrance. The color and shape of the flowers are said to vary widely depending on the region of origin.
