The Philodendron goeldii belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in the tropical regions of South America. It mainly grows in tropical rainforests, and in sandy areas along riverbanks and the edges of forests, it grows as a shrub. In dense forests, it grows as a hemiepiphyte at the top of large trees. The leaves are palmately divided, and are made up of 10 to 20 oblong to elliptic leaflets. The middle leaflet is 20 to 50 cm long. The flowers are on the spadix, and the outside of the bracts is green, while the inside is green or cream-colored. The fruit is edible and is said to resemble pineapple or banana.
