メキシコ中部、メキシコ湾沿いのプエブラ州からベラクルス州、タマウリパス州に分布しています。高さは３．６〜６メートルになり、葉は掌状に浅裂して互生します。夏に「たちあおい（立葵）」を小さくしたような真っ赤な花を咲かせます。アオイ属に分類されることもあるようです。京都府立植物園では、「Pheymosia sp.」という表記になっていました。

アオイ科フィモシア属の常緑低木で、学名は Phymosia umbellata（syn. Malva umbellata）。英名はありません。

The Phymosia umbellata belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed in central Mexico along the Gulf of Mexico from Puebla to Veracruz and Tamaulipas states. It grows 3.6 to 6 m tall, and its leaves are palmately lobed and alternate. It produces bright red flowers in summer that look like a smaller version of the "Hollyhock". It is sometimes classified in the genus Malva. At the Kyoto Botanical Garden, it was labeled "Pheymosia sp".
