ピレア属は、熱帯から亜熱帯に４００種ほどが分布しています。わが国の「みず（Pilea hamaoi）」の仲間です。一年草または多年草で、半低木になるものもあります。葉は対生し、３脈を持つ種類が多く、温暖多湿を好みます。写真上・中１は、園芸品種の「ムーンバレー（Pilea cv. Moon Valley）」。

The Pilea genus belongs to Urticaceae (the Nettle family). It consists of about 400 species in the tropical and sub-tropical areas. This herb is an annual or a perennial plant, rarely a semi-shrub. The leaves are opposite and have three veins. This herb prefers to warm humid climate. The top and 2nd one in the photo are the horticultural variety 'Moon Valley'.
