Pinguicula esseriana

Pinguicula esseriana

The Butterwort (Pinguicula esseriana) belongs to Lentibulariaceae (the Bladderwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Mexico. It has bright yellow-green rosettes with thickened leaves that catch small insects by producing mucilage from the fine hairs on the leaf surface. From winter to spring, it produces pale pink flowers similar to those of the violet. Its Japanese name is "Hime-ashinaga-mushitori-sumire", and it is the most widespread of the succulent pinguiculas.
