中国の南部からインドシナ半島に分布しています。湿潤熱帯バイオームの川辺に生え、高さは７〜１５メートルになります。葉は楕円形から披針形で、先端は尖ります。４月から６月ごろ、よく分枝する円錐花序をだし、赤褐色の花を咲かせます。花には花弁がなく５裂した萼片があります。果実は楕円形で、赤色に熟して裂開します。樹皮の繊維は袋や紙の原料として利用されます。中国語では「假苹婆（jia ping po）」と呼ばれます。

The Lance-leaved sterculia (Sterculia lanceolata) belongs to the family Sterculiaceae. It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed from southern China to the Indochina Peninsula. It grows on riverbanks in humid tropical biomes and reaches a height of 7 to 15 m. The leaves are elliptic to lanceolate with pointed tips. From April to June, it produces well-branched panicles and reddish-brown flowers. The flowers have no petals and five-lobed sepals. The fruit is elliptic, turning red when ripe and splitting open. The bark fibers are used as a raw material for bags and paper. In Chinese, it is called "假苹婆" (jia ping po).
