The alpine plantain (Plantago alpina) belongs to Plantaginaceae (the Plantain family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the European mountains; the Alps, the Apennine and the Pyrenees mountains. This herb grows in medows, sometimes screes, to 3000 m elevation, and can reach 5-15 cm in height. The leaves are soft, thin, linear and three-veined. The flowers are whitish-green and bloom in narrow spikes from July to August.
