タイからマレー半島の北部が原産です。このシダは露出地でも見られ、海岸の樹木の上にも着生します。この葉には、貯水葉と胞子葉の２種類があります。貯水葉は６０センチ以上で着生し、内部に貯水組織があります。胞子葉は白い綿状で雄鹿の角のような形をしていて、６０センチほどの長さになり垂れ下がります。

ウラボシ科ビカクシダ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Platycerium wallichii。英名は Indian staghorn。

The Indian staghorn (Platycerium wallichii) belongs to the family Polypodiaceae. It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Thailand and the northern part of the Malay Peninsula. This fern can be found in exposed areas and also grows on trees on the beach. It has two types of leaves: impounding fronds and fertile fronds. The impounding fronds are attached at 60 cm or more and have water-storing tissue inside. The fertile fronds are white, cottony, and shaped like a stag's horn, and are about 60 cm long and drooping.
