南アフリカの西ケープ州からクワズールナタール州に分布しています。砂丘や岩礫地の斜面、草原などに生え、高さは６０〜１８０センチになります。茎は直立して伸び、「ぎんばいか」に似た楕円形の葉がつきます。花はちょっとマメ科に似た花で赤紫色です。ほとんど一年中開花しますが、ピークは春です。

ヒメハギ科ヒメハギ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Polygala myrtifolia。英名は Myrtle-leaf milkwort。

The myrtle-leaf milkwort (Polygala myrtifolia) belongs to Polygalaceae (the Milkwort family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to the Western Cape to Kwazulu-Natal of South Africa. This shrub grows in dunes, rocky slopes or open grassland and can reach 60-180 cm in height. The stems are upright-growing with the leaves that resemble myrtle and are oval-shaped. The flowers are a bit legume-like, magenta and come in throughout the year with a peak in spring.
