アメリカのワシントン州からカリフォルニア州の北部に分布しています。低地から高山帯までの、乾燥した砂礫地や草原に生え、高さは５〜２０センチになります。葉は羽状複葉で、根元に密集させます。５月から７月ごろ、茎の先に集散花序をだし、青紫色から白色の釣鐘状の花を咲かせます。 |

The Showy Jacob's ladder (Polemonium pulcherrimum) belongs to Polemoniaceae (the Phlox family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Washington to northern California in the United States. It grows in dry, gravelly areas and grasslands from lowlands to alpine zones, and grows 5 to 20 cm tall. From May to July, cymes appear at the end of the stem, and blue-purple to white bell-shaped flowers bloom. |
