カナダの西部からアメリカのロッキー山脈以西に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の岩礫地に生え、高さは１０〜４０センチになります。葉はほとんどが根生し、羽状複葉です。小葉は基部でさらに３〜７深裂します。６月から８月ごろ、茎頂に漏斗形の青紫色の花を咲かせます。全体に粘り気のある腺毛に被われ、スカンクのような臭気があります。

ハナシノブ科ハナシノブ属の多年草で、学名は Polemonium viscosum。英名は Sticky Jacobs-ladder、Sticky polemonium, Sky pilot。

The Sticky Jacobs-ladder (Polemonium viscosum) belongs to Polemoniaceae (the Phlox family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from western Canada to west of the Rocky Mountains in the United States. It grows in subalpine to alpine areas in rocky gravel, and is 10 to 40 cm tall. The leaves are mostly basal and pinnately compound. The funnel-shaped blue-purple flowers bloom at the top of the stem from June to August. The entire plant is covered with sticky glandular hairs and has a skunk-like odor.
