ブラジルが原産です。大型の地生種で、ブロメリア亜科に属します。高さは８０センチほどになります。葉は細長く、ワインレッドの斑が入ります。成長すると朱色の花茎を伸ばして大きな総状花序をつけます。朱色の花柄の先に、紫色の花を咲かせます。

パイナップル科ポルテア属の常緑多年草で、学名は Portea alatisepala。英名はありません。

The Portea alatisepala belongs to Bromeliaceae (the Pineapple family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Brazil. A large terrestrial species, belonging to the subfamily Bromelioideae. It can reach a height of up to 80 cm. The leaves are long and narrow with burgundy spots. As it grows, it produces large racemes with vermilion flower stalks. The purple flowers are produced at the end of the vermilion peduncle.
