小アジアからコーカサス地方に分布しています。林や薮に生え、高さは５センチほどで、カーペット状に広がります。葉は円形から心形で、縁が波打ちます。葉柄は赤色です。春に花茎を伸ばし、散形花序に桃紫色の花を咲かせます。広く普及している「プリムラ・ジュリアン（Primula juliae hybrid）」の母種です。

The Primula juliae belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Asia Minor to the Caucasus. It grows in forests and bushes, is about 5 cm tall, and spreads like a carpet. The leaves are round to heart-shaped with wavy margins. The petiole is red. In spring, the plant grows flower stalks and produces peach-purple flowers in umbels. It is the mother plant of the widely popular "Primula juliae hybrid".
