ヒマラヤ周辺が原産のプリムラ・フロリブンダとサウジアラビア原産のプリムラ・ウェルティキラータとの交配種です。１８９８年にキュー王立植物園で作出されました。高さは４５センチほどになります。葉は比較的大きな卵形です。春、２〜４段で輪生状の花序に鮮やかな黄色い花を咲かせます。和名では、「やぐらざくら（矢倉桜）」と呼ばれます。

サクラソウ科サクラソウ属の多年草で、学名は Primula x kewensis。英名は Kew primrose。

The Kew primrose (Primula x kewensis) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial that is a hybrid between "Primula floribunda" (native of the Himalayas) and "Primula verticillata" (native of Saudi Arabia). It was bred in the greenhouses of the Royal Botanic Garden at Kew in 1898. This herb can reach about 45 cm in height. The leaves are relatively large ovate. The bright yellow flowers bloom in 2-4 tiers and annular clusters in spring.
