The Primula marginata belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in the southwestern part of the European Alps. It grows on sandy-gravelly slopes at elevations between 800 and 3000 m and is 2 to 10 cm tall. The leaves are leathery, obovate, and clearly serrated. In early summer, the flower stalks grow and produce pale blue, pink, or purple flowers. The flowers have white throats.
