The Polyanthus primrose (Primula polyantha) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is thought to be an interspecific hybrid between Primula veris, Primula elatior and Primula vulgaris. They are native to Europe and Asia. This herb can reach about 30 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-elliptic and basal. There are varieties which are little or nothing growing floral stems. The multicolor flowers bloom in the umbels from November to May. There are also many flower colors, such as red, pink, white, yellow or purple. This herb is cold tolerant, then again it is difficult to pass the summer in Japan.
