中国の南西部が原産です。穂状花序をつけるユニークな「さくらそう」で、高さは３０〜５０センチほどになります。湿った土地を好み、群生します。７月から８月ごろ、赤い苞の目立つ紫色からピンクの花を咲かせます。

サクラソウ科サクラソウ属の多年草で、学名は Primula vialli。英名は Pagoda primrose、Chinese pagoda primrose。

The pagoda primrose (Primula vialli) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is native to southwestern China. It is a unique primrose which bearing spikes, and can reach 30-50 cm in height. This herb prefers to wet soil and grows in clumps. The purple to pink flowers with visible red bracts bloom July to August.
