The Zimmermann's pasqueflower (Pulsatilla zimmermannii) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is found in eastern Europe, from northern to central Hungary and eastern Slovakia. It grows on sunny limestone hillsides, forest edges, and meadows, and is about 30 cm tall. The leaves are finely divided into pinnate leaflets. From March to April, the flower stalks grow and produce dark purple flowers. The stamens are yellow and the pistils are purple. The specific epithet is named after the German botanist Albrecht Zimmermann (1860-1931).
