The East-Indiann vanilla (Vanilla borneensis) belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from Assam in northern India to Thailand, Malaysia, and Borneo. It grows mainly in seasonally dry tropical biomes, spreading on slender, rounded stems above the tree. The leaves are elongated, elliptic, and pointed at the tip, and are spaced 6 to 10 cm apart on the stem. From winter to early spring, it produces racemes of fragrant flowers. The labellum is whitish pink with dark purple inner veins and brush-like hairs. The fruit is an elongated, linear capsule about 8 cm long.
