南アフリカが原産です。ユーコミス属とシャグマユリ属との属間交雑種のように見えます。茎はユーコミス属（Eucomis）に似たえび茶色の斑点があり、波状の葉は大きく多肉質で、明るい緑色です。花は、シャグマユリ属（Kniphofia）と同じ赤みがかったピンク色の筒状花で、雄しべが突きだします。春に咲き、夏の間、地上部は枯死して休眠します。 |

The Veltheimia capensis belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that may be a intergeneric hybrid between the Eucomis genus and the Kniphofia genus. The stems have Eucomis-like, maroon mottles and the wavy leaves are large, carnose, and bright green. The flowers are Kniphofia-like, reddish pink, tubular, and the stamens protrude from the corolla. The terrestrials are blighted and diapause during the summer. |
