The Veltheimia capensis belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that may be a intergeneric hybrid between the Eucomis genus and the Kniphofia genus. The stems have Eucomis-like, maroon mottles and the wavy leaves are large, carnose, and bright green. The flowers are Kniphofia-like, reddish pink, tubular, and the stamens protrude from the corolla. The terrestrials are blighted and diapause during the summer.
