ヨーロッパアルプスの東部と南部に分布しています。標高１８００メートル以内の草地に生え、高さは２５〜５０センチになります。葉は広卵形から狭披針形、または羽状に分裂し、縁には鋸歯があり、短い柄があります。６月から８月ごろ、鮮やかな青色の花を、１対ずつ穂状花序に咲かせます。

ゴマノハグサ科クワガタソウ属の多年草で、学名は Veronica austriaca。英名は Large speedwell。

The Large speedwell (Veronica austriaca) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the eastern and southern Alps. This herb grows in grassy places to 1,800 m elevation, and can reach 25-50 cm in height. The leaves are broadly-ovate to narrow lanceolate or pinnately-lobed with toothed edges and short stalks. The bright blue flowers bloom in paired spikes from June to August.
