The Koromiko (Veronica stricta) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is an evergreen shrub that is endemic to New Zealand. It grows in open, sunny, shrubby margins and swampy areas from coastal areas to low mountains, reaching a height of up to 2 m. The leaves are lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, slightly leathery, the apex often pointed, the margins usually entire. In summer, long spikes of small white to lilac flowers are produced in the leaf axils. The flowers have a sweet fragrance. The fruit is a small capsule covered with soft hairs.
