ヨーロッパの中部から南部に分布しています。草原や潅木帯などに生え、高さは１０〜２５センチになります。葉は広卵形から狭披針形で、縁は羽状に裂けるか鋸歯があり、短い葉柄があります。５月から６月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして穂状の総状花序をつけ、直径１センチほどの鮮やかな青色の花を咲かせます。写真は園芸品種の「クレーターレイクブルー（cv. Crater Lake Blue）」。

ゴマノハグサ科クワガタソウ属の多年草で、学名は Veronica austriaca ssp. teucrium。英名は Speedwell。

The Speedwell (Veronica austriaca ssp. teucrium) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in central and southern Europe. It grows in grasslands and shrublands and is 10-25 cm tall. The leaves are broadly ovate to narrowly lanceolate, with pinnately lobed or serrated edges and short petioles. From May to June, the flower stalks extend to produce spike racemes of bright blue flowers about 1 cm in diameter. The photo shows the garden variety 'Crater Lake Blue'.
