The Tea viburnum (Viburnum setigerum) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed in central and southern China. The trunk is erect and well branched from the base. It grows 2 to 3 m high with drooping branches. The leaves are blue-green, ovate, and grow in pairs. They turn reddish purple in fall. In mid-spring, it produces small corymbs of white flowers. From September to October, its egg-shaped fruits ripen to a reddish-orange color. In Chinese, it is called "茶莢蒾" (cha jia mi).
