	ヨーロッパの野生の「すみれ」から改良されたもので、「ガーデンパンジー（Garden pansy）」とも呼ばれます。花径が５センチ以上のものをいい、それより小さなものは「タフテッドパンジー（Tufted pansy）」、または「ビオラ（Viola）」と呼ばれます。花期は秋から春にかけて。花色が豊富で春の花壇を彩る代表的な花です。わが国では、小輪系の「パンジー」を「ビオラ」と呼びますが、厳密には区別できません。
	スミレ科スミレ属の多年草で、学名は Viola x wittrockiana。英名は Tufted pansy。
	The Tufted pansy (Viola x wittrockiana) is also called "Viola" belongs to Violaceae (the Viola family). It is a pernnial herb that is breeded from European wild violas. "Viola" is also called Garden pansy. The variety group with grows up to 5 cm in flower diameter are called "Pansy", and the variety which grows less than 5 cm are called "Tufted pansy" or "Viola". The flower comes from fall to spring. Tufted pansy has many flower colors, and popular bedding plant. In Japan, small-flowered "pansies" are called "violas", but they cannot be strictly distinguished.
