南アメリカのベネズエラ原産のピクツラータ種（Calathea picturata）の園芸品種です。高さは２０センチほどで、短い葉柄がある葉は長さ１２〜１６センチ、濃緑色の真ん中に大きな銀白色の斑が入ることが特徴です。裏面は濃い赤紫色をしています。

The Calathea 'Argentea' (Calathea picturata cv. Argentea) belongs to the family Marantaceae. It is an evergreen herb that is a garden variety of the Calathea picturata, native to Venezuela in South America. It is about 20 cm tall, with short petiolate leaves 12-16 cm long, dark green with large silvery-white spots in the middle . The underside is dark reddish purple.
