アメリカのカリフォルニア州南部からメキシコのバハカリフォルニア州北部に分布しています。森林や海岸沿いに生え、高さは５０～１５０センチになって、よく分枝します。葉は緑色で滑らか、丸みを帯びた菱形で、縁は波打ちます。２月から６月ごろ、茎頂に黄色い頭花を咲かせます。頭花は直径７センチほどあり、黄色の舌状花が１５～２５個つきます。果実は蒴果で、小鳥たちの餌となります。別名で「ブッシュサンフラワー」とも呼ばれます。

キク科エンケリア属の常緑小低木で、学名は Encelia californica。英名は California brittlebush、Bush sunflower。

The California brittlebush (Encelia californic) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen shrublet that is distributed from southern California in the United States to northern Baja California in Mexico. It grows in forests and along the coast, growing 50 to 150 cm tall and well branched. The leaves are green, smooth, rounded and diamond-shaped with wavy edges. yellow flower heads bloom at the top of the stems from February to June. The flower head is about 7 cm in diameter with 15 to 25 yellow ray florets. The fruit is a capsule, which is used as food for small birds. I is also known as "Bush sunflower"
