The California fuchsia (Epilobium canum) belongs to Onagraceae (the Evening primrose family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to western North America, especially California. This shrub grows on dry slopes and in chaparral, and up to a height of 60 cm. The leaves are opposite or alternate, lance-shaped or ovate, with short to nonexistent stalks. The pink to red-orange, funnel-shaped flowers bloom in late summer and fall.
