「だいこん」の栽培種と「せいようのだいこん」との自然交雑種と考えられています。この両種とも、１００年以上も前に、カリフォルニアに導入されました。一年草または二年草で、砂漠を除いたカリフォルニア州全体で見ることができます。耕作地や荒れ地などに生え、高さは１２０センチ以上になります。下部の葉は卵形で、深裂するか全裂します。２月から７月ごろ、４弁花を咲かせます。花弁の色は白色から淡い紫桃色です。

The California wild radish (Raphanus sativus) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is considered a natural hybrid between the cultivated radish (Raphanus sativus) and the jointed charlock (Raphanus raphanistrum). Both species were introduced to California more than 100 years ago. It is an annual or biennial herb that is found throughout California except for deserts. This herb grows in agricultural fields and other disturbed sites, and can reach up to 120 cm in height. The lower leaves are ovate and deeply lobed to deeply divided into leaflets. The four petaled flowers bloom from February to July. The flower petals are white to pale purplish-pink.
