南アメリカ北部のスリナムが原産です。枝が広がり、高さは４．５メートルほどになります。２回羽状複葉で、小葉は長楕円形をしています。長いパウダーパフのような雄しべは白色で、先の方が紅色を帯びています。別名で「スリナムごうかん（スリナム合歓）」と呼ばれます。

マメ科ベニゴウカン属の常緑低木で、学名は Calliandra surinamensis。英名は Suriname powder-puff、Surinamese stickpea。

The Surimane powder-puff (Calliandra surinamensis) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to Suriname in northern South America. The branches spread widely and can reach about 4.5 m in height. The leaves are bipinnate compound and the leaflets are oblong. The long powder-puff like stamens are white and tinged ponceau at the upper parts.
