The Cape fuchsia (Phygelius x rectus) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is an evergreen subshrub that is native to southern Africa. This subshrub grows in wet slopes and banks, and up to a height of 60-100 cm. The leaves are bright green, rouded arrow shaped, paired along erect deep red stems. The flowers are yellow throated, pale red, pendent tubular, and bloom in tiered panicles from May to late fall. The photo is a hybrid cultivar 'African Queen'.
