The large bittercress (Cardamine amara) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is native to most of Europe and West Asia. This herb grows in damp pastures, woods and streamsides, and can reach about 60 cm in height. The leaves are pinnate with 2-5 pairs of ovate, toothed leaflets. The white, rarely purplish flowers with violet anthers bloom from April to June.
