地中海沿岸の中央部、イタリアから旧ユーゴスラビアに分布しています。明るい森林や潅木帯、人里に近いところに生え、高さは１０～４０センチになります。葉は奇数羽状複葉で、卵形から楕円形の小葉がつきます。５月から６月ごろ、茎頂や上部の葉腋に総状花序をだし、ピンク色の花を咲かせます。果実は胞背裂開の蒴果です。種小名は、ギリシャ語の「ツバメ（cheilidon）」から。

アブラナ科タネツケバナ属の多年草で、学名は Cardamine chelidonia。英名は Chelidonium bittercress、Chelidonium toothwort。

The Chelidonium bittercress (Cardamine chelidonia) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed along the central Mediterranean coast, from Italy to the former Yugoslavia. It grows in light forests, shrublands, and near human settlements, and is 10-40 cm tall. It has odd pinnate compound leaves with ovate to elliptic leaflets and produces racemes of pink flowers at the top of the stem or in the upper leaf axils from May to June. The fruit is a capsule with a dorsal spiracle. The specific epithet is from the Greek word for "cheilidon" (swallow).
