北アメリカの東部に自生しています。肥沃な森や樹木の多い斜面などに生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。スプリングエフェメラルのひとつです。葉は、深く掌状に５裂し、大きな鋸歯縁と長い葉柄があります。３月から５月ごろ、白い四弁花が先端の花序に咲きます。果実は細長い袋果（長角果）で、長さ４センチまでに達します。根茎のスパイシーでラディッシュのような風味にちなんで、「ペッパールート」と呼ばれることもあります。これは切り取ってサラダに加えることができます。

アブラナ科タネツケバナ属の多年草で、学名は Cardamine concatenata。英名は Cutleaf toothwort、Crow's toes。

The Cutleaf toothwort (Cardamine concatenata) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is native to eastern North America. This herb grows in rich woods and wooded slopes, and up to a height of 20-40 cm. It is considered a spring ephemeral. The leaves are deeply and palmately dissected into five segments with large toothed margins and long petioles. The four-petaled, white flowers blooms in the terminal cluster from April to May. The fruit is an elongated pod which can be up to 4 cm long. This herbs are sometimes called pepperroots in reference to the spicy, radish-like flavor of the rhizomes which can be cut up and added to salads.
