南アメリカの北西部、エクアドルからペルー、ボリビアに分布しています。高さは３メートルほどになります。葉は掌状に３〜５裂して光沢があり、長い葉柄があります。茎頂に集散花序をだし、ピンク色の筒状花を咲かせます。花冠は５裂します。果実は赤橙色に熟し、食べることができます。

パパイヤ科パパイヤ属の常緑低木で、学名は Carica parviflora。英名は Papayillo、Papaya de monte。

The Papayillo (Carica parviflora) belongs to Caricaceae (the Papaya family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to north-western South America; Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. This tree can reach about 3 m in height. The leaves are divided into 3-5 lobes palmately. They are glossy with long petioles. The cymes are born at the tip of stems and bloom the pink tubular flowers. The corolla is five partite. The fruits ripen red-orange and are good to eat.
