ヨーロッパの西部から中部、フランスからスロベニア・クロアチアにかけて分布しています。明るい森林地帯や草地に生え、高さは３０〜４０センチになります。葉は掌状複葉で、５個の披針形で鋸歯のある小葉がつきます。４月から５月ごろ、茎頂の総状花序に、紫色やピンク色、または白色の４弁花を咲かせます。種小名は、ギリシャ語の「penta (five)」＋「phyllos (leaf)」を意味します。またこの植物は、英国王立園芸協会の庭園功労賞を受賞しています。

アブラナ科タネツケバナ属の多年草で、学名は Cardamine pentaphyllos。英名は Five-leaflet bitter-cress、Showy toothwort。

The Five-leaflet bitter-cress (Cardamine pentaphyllos) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in western and central Europe, from France to Slovenia and Croatia. It grows in light woodlands and meadows and is 30-40 cm tall. The leaves are palmately compound with five lanceolate, serrated leaflets. 4-petaled purple, pink, or white flowers bloom in racemes at the top of stems from April to May. The specific epithet means "penta" (five) + "phyllos" (leaf) in Greek. This plant has also received the Royal Horticultural Society's Garden Merit Award.
