アメリカのカリフォルニア州東部とちょっとネバダ州西部に入ったところに分布しています。標高２０００〜３５００メートルにある湿り気のある草地に生え、高さは１０〜２０センチになります。全草が腺毛で被われています、葉は長さ２〜４センチの線形から狭披針形です。７月から８月ごろ、先端が紫色あるいはピンク色の緑色がかった多くの苞のあいだに、小さな黄色の花を咲かせます。

ゴマノハグサ科カスティレヤ属の多年草で、学名は Castilleya lemmonii。英名は Lemmon's Indian paintbrush。

The Lemmon's Indian paintbrush (Castilleya lemmonii) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to eastern California and just into western Nevada in the United States. This herb grows in moist meadows at 2,000-3,500 m elevation, and it can reach 10-20 cm in height. The whole plant is covered with glandular hairs. The leaves are 2-4 cm long and linear to narrowly lanceolate. The small yellowish flowers bloom between many purple- or pink-tipped greenish bracts from July to August.
