熱帯アメリカに広く分布しています。高さは１．５～７．５メートルになります。葉は楕円形から長楕円形で、細かい鋸歯があります。葉腋から花序をだし、小さな白色の５弁花を咲かせます。果実は球形から楕円体の蒴果で、目立つ縦方向の稜があり、熟すと黄橙色または赤みがかった色になります。

The Smooth casearia (Casearia nitida) belongs to the family Flacourtiaceae. It is a small deciduous tree that is widely distributed in tropical America. This tree can reach 1.5-7.5 m in height. The leaves are elliptic to oblong with minutely serrulate margins. The small, 5-petaled flowers bloom in the axillary inflorescences. The fruits are globose to ellipsoid capsule, with prominent longitudinal ridges, and yellowish-orange or reddish when mature.
