アメリカの西部に分布しています。岩の多い斜面や乾燥した平原に生え、高さは３０〜１００センチになります。茎は多少、分枝します。葉は線形で縁は上方に巻き、全縁またはまれに上部の葉が３裂します。花は黄緑色の筒状花で、赤色から黄色の苞葉がつき、６月から９月ごろ、円錐花序または穂状花序に咲きます。ワイオミング州の州花です。

The Wyoming paintbrush (Castilleja linariifolia) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the western United States. This herb grows on rocky slopes and arid plains, and it can reach 30-100 cm in height. The stems are few branched. The leaves are linear, edges rolled upward, entire or rarely with upper leaves 3-lobed. The flowers are yellow-green floral tube with a red to yellow bracts, and bloom in panicles or spikes between June and September. Wyoming paintbrush is the state flower of Wyoming.
