Scabiosa caucasica (Scabiosa caucasica) belongs to Dipsacaceae (the Teasel family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Caucasus, north eastern Turkey, and northern Iran. This herb grows up to 60 cm in height, and forms a clump. The leaves are divided into deep pinnately. The pale blue or lavender flower heads, about 8 cm in diameter bloom from late summer through to fall. They are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. Numerous cultivars have been developed for garden use, in shades of red, purple, pink, blue and white.
