中央アメリカのグアテマラが原産です。高さは４５〜６０センチになり、茎には不明瞭な稜があります。葉は狭披針形で３脈があり、裏面は白粉を帯びます。春、茎頂に円錐花序をだし、内側が白色で外側がピンク色の４弁花を咲かせます。

ノボタン科ケントラデニア属の常緑小低木で、学名は Centradenia floribunda。英名は Spanish shawl flower。

The Spanish shawl flower (Centradenia floribunda) belongs to Melastmataceae (the Melastome family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Central America, Guatemala. The stem has obscurely ridges and can reach 45-60 cm in height. The leaves are narrow lanceolate and have prominent three veins. The abaxial sides are covered with white bloom. The flowers bloom in the terminal panicles in spring. The flowers are four-petaled, white on the inner surfaces and pink on the outer surfaces.
